Avondale Estates

Landowner George Francis Willis originally planned Avondale Estates to be a self-contained community back in 1924 and since then, it has indeed become a city on its own. In 2012, it was recognized by This Old House magazine as one of the “Best Old House Neighborhood.” Located east of Decatur, Avondale Estates also houses the Academy Theatre in its designated arts district and is the longest-running professional theater in Georgia. Most homes and commercial establishments downtown were constructed in Tudor-revival style and it offers a true village atmosphere in a town. It’s accessibility to the city has attracted various residents from single, couple, to whole family set ups.
